When to go

Peak season: December to February, the Australian and NZ summer, especially Christmas and New Year. Fiji: June to September.

Prices in Australia barely change through the year, so you can pick your dates on weather alone.

Before you go

As well as insurance and kit, budget for a working holiday visa if you plan to work, which costs about £440.
